One-Of-A-Kind.

HUDSON RIVER Needle Felt PASTEL SERIES

PAINTING WITH FIBER
I began needle felting when I admired the art works of pastel artists.  Although I was not
interested in using chalk, the pastel medium, I wanted to achieve the soft, mingling of colors of pastels with my supply of wool roving I use to spin the yarn I use for weaving.

TOOLS
The basic tools for needle felting wool fiber are:  wool, a sponge used as a felting surface, and felting needles or a felting machine.

CREATING THE SUBSTRATUM...the felted wool
Needle felted art is the art of sculpting wool fiber with special, barbed needles, stabbing the wool over and over again by hand or with a special felting machine that makes the wool felt.

CREATING MY PALETTE OF SCRUMPTIOUS COLORS
Using 100% Corriedale top Ashford Spinning Fiber, I card the wool roving or batts to tease and open the wool out to separate the individual fibers, and blend the colors to create the depth and softening edges I desire which are then added onto the substratum.
